Western Mule/Donkey Pattern The Western Mule/Donkey Pattern class evaluates the mule’s/donkey’s ability to execute a set of maneuvers prescribed by the judge with precision and smoothness. The ideal Western Pattern mule/donkey is extremely precise, working in unison, with the mule/donkey responding to each maneuver with subtle aids and cues. A. Class Routine: 1. All exhibitors must enter the ring and then work individually. The following maneuvers are acceptable in a pattern: walk, jog, trot, extended trot, lope, or extended lope in a straight line, curved line, serpentine, circle, or figure 8 or combination of these gaits and maneuvers; stop; back in a straight or curved line; turn or pivot, including spins and rollbacks on the haunches and/or on the forehand; sidepass, two track, or leg yield; simple change of lead or counter canter. Judges should not ask exhibitors to mount or dismount. B. Judging Considerations 1. The mule/donkey will be evaluated on smoothness of transitions, accuracy of completion of each element of maneuver and general forwardness.
Training Level Western Donkey Pattern
Same as above but limited to walk/trot gaits. |

Justification and impact if rule is not changed |
Justification: Since we correctly removed Mule/Donkeymanship from the open division we need to replace it with a individual western pattern class. The animal is judged not the exhibitor. Impact: there is not a class for the open mule/donkey division. |

Committee Comments |
The Committee sees no difference between this and Donkeymanship and sees no reason to add another mule class.
